Tianjin Kyofusho : A video piece based on the supposedly culturally specific Japanese phobia of uncontrollable social harm.
Tianjin Kyofusho is a paranoid belief that the sufferer may be unable to stop themselves causing harm to others. Thought to come about through the imposition of social structures on free-thinking individuals, tianjin kyofusho manifests itself as compulsive behaviour designed to prevent the sufferer from coming into close contact with other humans, with the sole purpose of preventing others from experiencing harm as a result of the sufferer’s own violence.
